The Transfiguration Cathedral in Berdsk

The Transfiguration Cathedral in Berdsk

The cathedral is two-storied. The lower church is consecrated in the name of Three Sanctifiers - Basil the Great, Gregory the Theologian, and John Chrysostom. The upper church is consecrated in the name of the Transfiguration of Christ.

On 7 of July, 1992, on the Nativity of John the Forerunner, Bishop Tychon (Emelyanov) of Novosibirsk and Berdsk consecrated the foundation stone and the place for the construction of the new church, which is now the Transfiguration Cathedral.

The lower church was consecrated by the deceased Bishop Sergey (Sokolov) at the beginning of the January, 1998.

Near the cathedral, opposite its altar, there are two graves, especially honored by the believers: the grave of Archimandrite Macarius (Remorov) (-|- 08.12.1998) and the grave of Bishop Sergey (Sokolov) (-|- 20.10.2000), who was the first Bishop of Novosibirsk and Berdsk.

The upper church was consecrated by Bishop Tychon (Emelyanov) of Novosibirsk and Berdsk on the Annunciation, in 2001.

From this time, the services have been being offered in the upper church. The iconostasis was set on the Palm Sunday, on 28 of April, 2002. The services have been being celebrated in the lower church since 1998. At the end of the August, 1998, the bells were brought to Berdsk from Ural. Grace to the donations, given by the believers, there are now 9 bells in the Berdsk bell-tower. On 13 of September, 1998, the inhabitants of Berdsk heard the ringing of the bells for the first time.

At the moment, finishing works are going on in the cathedral. The cathedral was built according to the project of Petr Chernobrovtsev, a Novosibirsk architect, the author of the Chapel of St. Nicolas the Wonderworker in Red Prospect, of the Church of the Icon of the Mother of God "of the Sign", in Uchitelskaya street, the Church of the Icon of the Mother of God "Assuage my sorrow" in Kleshchikha, in Novosibirsk.

There are many honored icons and relics in the Transfiguration Cathedral:

The icon of the Annunciation. This icon was given by parishioners on the eve of the Annunciation day in 2001. The icon had been kept in the old, now destroyed, church of the Presentation of Christ.

The icon of the Mother of God of Kazan (the riza was embroidered and decorated by nun Zoya).

Church icons: the icon of the Transfiguration and the icon of Three Sanctifiers. One of the icons of Three Sanctifiers was painted by Natalia Nikolayevna Sokolova, the mother of Bishop Sergey.

The icons presented by Bishop Sergey: the Icon of Christ the Savior, the Icon of the Mother of God, the icon of St. Nicolas the Wonderworker.

The Footstep of Mother of God, brought by Father Basil from Pochayev monastery.

The services are celebrated every Saturday and Sunday, and on holidays,

The Cathedral belongs to the Berdsk parish of the Presentation of Christ.
